I don’t think I’m quite ready to release my death grip on my old MS Office, but either one is fine. I’m more comfortable with my old office suite because I am familiar with it. On the other hand, this can do most of the same things and has a few little bells and whistles to play with such as additional backgrounds for powerpoint presentations. You can make ppt presentations using this, you just have to change the mode.
Not sure why they need such a large box for 3 flimsy little CD’s but I guess it makes it look more impressive.
The clipart disk is cool but I have a major nit with it. Their descriptions are nonexistent. So you have to open each one to see what it is for example WP03390 is a drawing of a wine bottle and WP03399 is a wine glass and WP03411 is a pitcher and lemonade glass. It would be much more helpful if the descriptions said as much so I didn’t have to waste time flipping through each one and renaming them.
As a long time user of Microsoft Office at work, I have only had minimal experience with past versions of Word Perfect. As this version promised compatibility with MS Office, I decided to try it as a less expensive alternative for my home. This edition seems to live up to its promises. It is compatible with the version of MS Word I have at work (Office 07), and the ability to create PDFs of documents will be useful in the future. With a cost that is far lower than the MS Office, I find this an excellent alternative.
I did have a little bit of difficulty finding where certain commands were, but that is to be expected when dealing with new software. Fortunately, the help was useful enough that with my previous experience with word processors, I was only slowed down a bit. I haven’t used the other portions of this product yet, but they look to be workable alternatives. If you’re using MS Office and want to switch to a different suite and don’t mind taking a little time to find your way around, this is a good option.
Let me be clear about this. Microsoft Office is the standard in which all other Office software is measured by. That being said, how did Word Perfect measure up? Pretty darn well if you ask me. I wasn’t sure what to expect having been an office user since i owned my first PC but WordPerfect stands up pretty well and makes a great substitution if you can’t afford the full office suite or just don’t like microsoft. However, that being said Office is still superior, but WordPerfect isn’t far behind.
WordPerfect Office X5 completely full fills it’s claims. It is easy to install and the learning curve is short and flat. The product was delivered in good condition and quickly. Highly recomended.
Frankly, I *hate* the “ribbon” interface of MS Office ’07. Because of this I refused the upgrade at work when offered the option. At home I use Office 2000 and really see no reason to upgrade as it just works.
What does this have to do with WordPerfect Office X5? Everything as the interface is a very nice menu based system like MS Office 2000 and ’03. Plus WPO X5 opens and saves in docx format (which is another MS foisted propriety travesty/abomination of a open source standard). Sure very advanced formatting *might* be lost but does anybody *really* use advanced formating in *everyday* work?
Unless you can get MS Office “free” as part of work or college offerings WordPerfect is less expensive than MS Office. While it does not include a database module, neither does MS Office “Home/Student” edition.
Overall I’m pleased with the current WordPerfect offering and am using it more than MS Office 2000. The last time I used WordPerfect on a daily basis was with WordPerfect for DOS. This was primarily due to the invasion of MS Windows and Office at work. I missed WP and the ease with which things were done. It’s nice to be back where I started.
Recommended.
