I purchased a stellar product, it arrived in two days, and I paid less than Costco’s price. What else can I say?

I received it in good condition and was able to install it easily. I have just started using it and it has been great for me. I am not a computer geek and still it is user friendly.

Having perfected my craft on Windows 95 and honed my skills further on Windows 2000 (with corresponding Office suites), it was with trepidation that I poked my nose out and tried Office 2010. I then panicked, because nothing looked the same and I couldn’t find the menus to find anything. After staring at the page in blank horror for several minutes, I realized that the reason I couldn’t find the menus was that there was no longer a real need for them – everything was more or less right there on the top of the page.

While making this Office suite much more user-friendly, it also clutters up the top of the screen terribly and reduces the amount of actually “useful” screen significantly. I predict that this trend will continue until there is only a single line of useful screen while the rest of the window is made up of user-friendly menus. But I digress.

This is a fairly straight-forward and easy-to-use office suite for students and those who need a fairly simple set of tools for use at home. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. If you are looking for OutLook or anything else, you’ll have to search further I’m afraid – those are the only programs included here. However, you are given a license to put the suite onto three computers in your home, so that’s a nice bonus.

Overall, I guess this is an OK tool for use at home – call me old-fashioned, but I miss the old menus. I’ll probably use my OpenOffice suite more often than the MicroSoft Office, just because it uses the old familiar menus. If you prefer something a bit more modern and easy, though, this set of office programs is for you.

Users of Office 2007 will find incremental improvement in the standard student package and the price improvement of the ability to upgrade 3 PC in a single package. If you are eligible for this upgrade and the standards required (no longer requiring student or faculty ID)–This is probably a worthwhile purchase. However, I was somewhat disappointed that it does not include the Professional Email handler with its latest revisions–Outlook 2010.

I use this quite literally for my own personal use. If you are looking for a highly analytical analysis of this product go elsewhere.

MSOffice 2010 Home & Student(Disc Version) has a lot going for it. First, you can load this on a max of 3 computers in your home per the licensing agreement. It consists of WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, and ONENOTE. I used the standard installation and it eliminated everthing from Office 2007 before loading Office 2010.

The major improvement in this edition is the ribbon interface which is present in all applications in this suite. You can take all the commands you most frequently use in tabs of your own creation. It eliminates a lot of keybar garbage and makes navigation easier as well as more efficient.

The other major improvement which is extremely useful to me are new photo and video editting tools which have virtually removed the need for other independent applications to perform these functions. It is a fairly sophisticated feature and is probably more than adequate for the home user.

I am still playing around with the file sharing features of ONENOTE, but I like what I’ve seen so far.

Overall, this is a reasonably priced improvement over the more expensive and cumbersome release which had too many inconsistencies and was far more difficult to use. All the applications interface with one another seamlessly and are consistent in terms of features and operations used to navigate.
