Single Player Mode Review Only –
I’ve played Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Call of Duty, COD2 and now COD4. The best of the bunch is COD2. I run the games on a MB Pro 2.66, 4 GB Ram, etc. MOHAA crashes about 1/2 the time, COD is a terrible game graphics and gameplay wise, COD4 as the newest of the games should be the best. Don’t get me wrong it has lots of really great graphics, but the scenarios are a bit of a drag as you spend most of your time running around in cities (dead cities for the most part) dealing with Nationalist Ruskies, terrorists and so on. Half the time you’re in the SAS where the accents of the Scottish officer is so heavy that it might be easier to learn Russian than to understand the guy. The selection of weapons is fine, I have no knowledge if they actually perform as their real world counter parts as my time in the military we used M-1′s, M-1 carbines, BAR’s and eventually M-16′s.
The best way I can describe it is that the technical aspects of the game are good: graphics, sound, etc. What is missing is a truly engaging interesting set of scenarios. Quite frankly the scenarios are challenging – tactically – but not very enjoyable to play. I thought maybe there would be some scenarios dealing with the Afghan mountains or some desert warfare as in Desert Storm. Sadly it isn’t.
There’s more special ops stuff here than regular military. There’s more special effects than interesting scenarios. The game machine is there, it just needs a better set of scenarios and perhaps a more interesting field of battle.
Maybe Aspyr will do more WWII versions using this game machine. More of COD4 like this I’m not interested in.
Its too modern for me. I still love to play COD2. This game is too jazzy.
Glad to see apple is finally allowing for some really good games- this one is classic. Kind of wish they had prestige mode, but can live without it (makes you feel more accomplished when you get to 55). Also allows you to play online with people that are using the pc version. Am now waiting patiently for WAW..
